ALEXANDRA – Rapist of 12-year-old receives a 5-year jail term.
A Marlboro youth was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to five years imprisonment for committing statutory rape.
Headman Ndebele (20) was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old schoolchild and neighbour at his place in January last year, by Magistrate Gideon Schneitler.
The victim was said to have frequented the accused’s place whenever the mother was away. On one of the episodes, the mother found her absent from home and reported to the police after she became suspicious. State prosecutor Jacqui Letsoalo said the child admitted to having been raped and was also under the age of consent, hence the statutory rape charge. This after the accused in mitigation claimed that they were in love.
