Vicki Momberg to spend two years in jail for using the K-word
JOBURG – Racist ex-estate agent, Vicki Momberg sentenced this morning.
This is the first person in the country to be sentenced to direct imprisonment for crimen injuria.
Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan sentenced Vicki Momberg to three years imprisonment. One year of the sentence is suspended, meaning Momberg will spend two years in jail.
Advocate Kevin Lawlor, for the defence, told the court that he wanted to lodge a notice to appeal the sentence and conviction.
The state is pushing to have Momberg begin serving her sentence today. State prosecutor, Yusuf Baba asked the court for Momberg’s bail not to be extended. The defence, however, asked the court to grant Momberg bail.
Lawlor said it will be difficult to consult with Momberg while she is in custody. Momberg is currently in the holding cells as she awaits making a bail application. The matter has been stood down for now.
