17-year-old accused of murder
ALEXANDRA – Gun- and knife-wielding 17-year-old faces a murder charge.
A 17-year-old who allegedly stabbed a peer to death on 17 December last year was remanded in custody to 9 May by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending the completion of an investigation and receipt of a post-mortem report.
The accused was arrested on 9 February this year. He allegedly found the deceased with two friends of a similar age seated on a stoep of a 12th Avenue home at 4.30pm and forcibly tried to take a cap off the head of one of them.
The boy held on to the cap resulting in the accused allegedly threatening him with a knife, prompting the victim to flee after freeing himself.
The accused then allegedly turned on another boy and took off his cap after threatening him with a gun. This seemingly shocked the deceased who the accused turned to and stabbed in the chest repeatedly before he fled the scene. The injured boy was taken to Alex clinic and transferred to Edenvale Hospital where he later died.
The two-week strike of mortuary workers from 7 March delayed the compilation of the post-mortem report.
