Skhumbuzo Ndlovu (22) assaulted his 43-year-old uncle with a brick before grabbing and running away with his cell phone. The incident occurred at 8pm in August last year at the accused’s parents’ tavern on 16th and Florence Mophosho avenues. The two were drinking together when the uncle received a call and went outside as it was noisy inside. Ndlovu followed him with a brick and hit him on the head. When he fell, Ndlovu grabbed the phone and ran away with it.

The victim approached Ndlovu’s parents who urged him to report their son to the police as they were fed up with his indiscretions. He was arrested and remanded in custody awaiting a hearing held on 18th April where the victim only demanded his R129-worth cell phone. After Ndlovu indicated where the phone was, the court postponed the case to 23 April where the victim reported in court that he didn’t find the phone. This resulted in the court imposing the sentence which the victim welcomed as a fitting verdict as the accused had also lied to the court.
