Copper wire thief sentenced to five years’imprisonment

ALEXANDRA – One less copper thief on the streets.

A man charged with theft of a copper wire cable connector was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Luyolo Nofemela (22) who was with an accomplice who is still at large, was found guilty of the crime which occurred late afternoon on 28 March at a City Power substation near Boulders Shopping Centre, Midrand.

A security company officer saw them jumping out over a wall of the substation carrying the connector and a hacksaw. When the officer ordered them to stop, the two fled but Nofemela was apprehended with the items and handed over to the police resulting in his conviction.
