A celebratory frenzy as Malandela Mighty Heroes clinch a late winner
ALEXANDRA - A late strike saw Malandela Mighty Heroes collect maximum points from this Safa Promotional League game.
A last-minute goal by Malandela Mighty Heroes’ Obakeng Ramahlo launched his Alex team into a celebratory frenzy against the Johannesburg CBD side Eagles FC.
The sweet 1–0 victory came at a time when a goalless draw had been written all over this South African Football Association Promotional League match at the Alexandra Stadium.
A draw would have been a fair result for both teams in this evenly matched encounter, and more especially for the visitors as they showed grit by matching the home side pound for pound in their own backyard.
Most of the play was concentrated in the middle of the park with occasional forays into the 18-yard areas of both teams.
Eagles’ Chicco Nkanyiso, one of the outstanding defenders of the day, admitted he was devasted when Ramahlo thundered in a shot that rattled the back of the net at the stroke of full time.
“That’s how unfair football can be sometimes. This result will never be a true reflection of this game,” he told Alex News editor Sipho Siso.

“We matched them pound for pound in their own backyard and I was happy to see a goalless draw at the end of it all but I was devastated by the late strike. But that’s football and we cannot cry over it too much as it is like [crying over] spilt milk now.”
Mighty Heroes’ Nkateko Pandeka said they were happy to have emerged victorious in what he described as ‘a tough encounter’ against the Eagles.
“We’re happy that we managed to secure a victory as everything else now counts for nothing,” he said.
“We got the three points and that’s all that matters now and we can then look ahead to yet another game.”
