Local DJ’s to rally support for those in need in Norwood

NORWOOD – The event also intends to promote local DJs and help them sharpen their skills.

Local DJs will host weekly free-entry events to rally support for those in need during this winter season.

In his quest to keep displaced and destitute people warm this winter DJ Mbuso Tulwana, known as DJ Mbuso, has organised the DJs Against Cold weekly campaign to encourage residents to donate blankets and old clothes. The campaign is hosted at Ascot Hotel in Norwood every Friday and The first event took place on 1 June.

DJ Mbuso, co-founder of Phezulu Records, has called on locals to support this initiative earmarked to help the disadvantaged in their community. “We will also use this platform to promote our local DJs and artists to hone their craft.

“Everyone is welcome and this is a free-for-all event. We really urge those who have blankets or old clothes to donate them to help those who require them.”

He said this is the first time they are doing this in the North Eastern suburbs of Johannesburg but he has done this personally in Soweto.

“We saw a need to come and organise this in this area and we hope that the locals will heed our call and support our initiative.

“We have not identified any beneficiaries yet but we plan to work with non-government organisations in the area to assist us,” DJ Mbuso said.

The initiative will feature local music maestros on the decks to help them promote their music locally. The likes of DJ Skipper, DJ Iconic and Young DJ will be featured this coming Friday.

Due to space constraints, there will be no performances on stage only will be DJs playing, he concluded.
