Varsity College students give back to Alexandra community
ALEXANDRA – Fifty-two education students put their busy examination schedule aside to participate in a community outreach project.
Students of Varsity College Sandton visited Emfundisweni Primary School to give back to the community.

The second-year Bachelor of Education Intermediate Phase students donated their time and some goodies to Grade 4 to Grade 7 children on Thursday 7 June. Fifty-two students from Varsity College participated in the community outreach project despite their busy examination schedule.

Programme manager of the college’s faculty of education, Andre van der Westhuizen, said they have been working with Alexandra schools on this project for three years.
“We’ve been doing this project for three years now as Varsity College and the reason we chose Alex is that we want to give back to our community, especially those schools in disadvantaged communities with limited resources,” he said.

A second-year education student, Gia Da Silva, described the programme as an exciting learning curve. She said that it not only helps school children but also helps them as future educators to understand the realities in public schools.
