24-year-old man kills his grandmother
ALEXANDRA – Murderer of his granny awaits sentencing.
A man charged with the gruesome murder of his granny will be sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 27 July.
He was remanded in custody pending receipt of post-mortem results on the deceased.

Linda Lengwati (24) appeared before Magistrate Renier Boshoff charged with the murder which occurred on 2 May at their 10th Avenue home. The granny, who brought the accused up, was said to have been hit by her grandson with an old case pressing iron on the head. It cracked her skull leading to her death.
A witness heard the victim calling for help and went to the house. He found it locked and knocked on the door but no one opened. He heard the accused, who he knew, ordering his granny to repeat after him the words, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’.

Afterwards, the witness heard a loud scream from the victim followed by silence. Police called to the scene asked the accused to open the door but he instead threw the house keys through the window enabling them to get in and arrest him. He opted to represent himself and pleaded not guilty. He claimed that the murder involved witchcraft. It was alleged that the accused is a drug addict.
