67 suspects arrested in a week
ALEXANDRA – Assaults, drug and alcohol crimes top in week's arrests.
Sixty-seven suspects were arrested by officers of the Alex Police Station for various criminal offences in the week ending 26 August.
According to police spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji, the statistics of the suspects who have appeared in court or remain in custody pending further investigation are:
- One for murder
- One for common robbery
- One for residential burglary
- One for fraud
- Two for shoplifting
- Two for robbery aggravating
- Three for general offences
- Three for possession of reported stolen property including a motor vehicle
- Six for malicious damage to property
- Eleven for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Eleven for other drug-related offences
- Twelve for common assault
- Thirteen for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
