The body of a stillborn baby found in the yard of police residence

ALEXANDRA – Police are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a newborn was found in a garbage bin.

The body of a newborn baby was found in a rubbish bin at the Alexandra police barracks on 6 September at about 10am.

It is alleged that a woman gave birth at night and put the newborn in a plastic bag and placed the baby in the rubbish bin. Police said it was still unclear whether the baby girl was dead or alive at the time she was born.

Alex police spokesperson captain Stephen Malatjie said, “Yes, I can confirm that a body of a stillborn baby was found in a garbage bin at the premises of Alexandra police barracks. A case of concealment of birth was opened and the investigation is underway.”
