Gelling through music
ALEXANDRA – Man on unity mission through music.
A resident of Nobuhle Hostel in Alex is hoping his dream of unity will come true as a contribution to local nation-building.
Dlangamandla Xaba said this at a musical event in the hostel’s parking lot.

“It’s important for unity, neighbourliness and the creation of a positive foundation for the township’s children, ” he said as music groups of mostly youths trickled in for the event which went into the early evening on 29 September. He had hoped for a large
turnout of groups of different genres, languages and fans of isicathamiya, maskandi, hip-hop and gospel and others to a jam session ‘to unite us’.
“It’s not good so many years into a democracy for us to still fear to tread on another’s ‘fictitious’ territory,” Xaba said alluding to apparent tensions between hostel and other township residents. “We should worry that some residents fear to visit or pass by hostels and that some hostel residents are apprehensive of mingling with neighbors in surrounding homes.”

He urged all township residents to open up, understand and help each other for the sake of future generations. “Like sports, music is the appropriate platform for the initiative,” he added while committing to continue his dream.
The event also gave an opportunity to local up-and-coming fashion designers to exhibit their work.
