Alert guards avert car theft
ALEXANDRA – Car thief's intention gets him a three-year sentence.
A Soweto man who was arrested while prowling for a car to steal at a parking lot has been taken off the streets.
Sthembiso Malevu was sentenced to three years’ in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after he had pleaded guilty to possessing a sharp object used to break into motor vehicles and houses. Security guards approached him at midday on 25 April in a parking area in Midrand after they had observed him prowling the place. They searched him and found the object in his possession. Police called to the scene arrested him when he confessed that he was looking for a vehicle to steal.
