The City of Johannesburg urges community members to attend IDP session planned for their areas

ALEXANDRA – Ntshinga-Makoro has urged the region E community to attend the sessions planned for their areas of residence to contribute to the City's next IDP.

The City’s Region E said it was very concerned about the poor attendance of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) listening session.

Integrated Development Planning is a process that involves the entire municipality and its citizens in finding the best solutions to achieve good long-term development. It aims to co-ordinate the work of local and other spheres of government in a coherent plan to improve the quality of life for all the people living in an area. It should take into account the existing conditions and problems and resources available for development

The City’s Region E cluster which comprises wards 75, 76, 81, and 105 held its IDP session at the East Bank Community Hall on Saturday 27 0ctober and only saw a dozen community members taking part in the process.

Region E director Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro said the region will go back to the boardroom to establish the cause of this poor attendance. “I think we need to invest more time into understanding the turnout and lack of interest of the people of Alexandra to attend these sessions. We earlier introduced an educational drive leading to actual IDP sessions. We thought a lack of understanding of the process might be the cause of poor attendance. People attended those sessions and were taught about the importance of IDP but as you can see today, we did not have a good turnout.”

Ntshinga-Makoro has urged the Region E community members to attend the sessions planned for their areas of residence to contribute to the City’s next IDP.
