Jeppe High School for Girls in Kensington is R1 million richer

KENSINGTON – Jeppe High School for Girls receives a windfall for its infrastructural upliftment.

Jeppe High School for Girls has received a windfall of a birthday present when it accepted a donation of R1 million towards the major infrastructural developments that are planned for the school.

The donation by a former learner, actress, radio presenter and philanthropist, Carolyn Steyn, comes as the school marks its 100th birthday next year and has plans to renew and refresh some of the old infrastructures.

To mark this milestone, the school, situated in Kensington, Johannesburg, has embarked on a major fundraising initiative in an effort to upgrade the existing school facilities.

Steyn answered the call and handed over a cheque for R1 million to the school which she said will go towards the major infrastructural developments that are planned.

“I am pleased to be able to contribute towards the growth of the school,” she said.

“I know how much Jeppe Girls’ High shaped my development as a young lady, and I am proud to see that the school continues to be a benchmark of excellence in education.”

Jeppe Girls’ headmistress, Dina Gonçalves who received the cheque added, “We love having our Alumnae visit the school and we love it, even more, when they get involved in the school.

“We are delighted to receive this very generous donation from Ms Steyn for our centenary year and intend to put it towards building a performing arts centre for the school. As Ms Steyn’s roots are in the performing arts, we know she will be pleased.”

The centre will be used for drama, orchestra and choir practises and performances.
