Twala’s generosity extends to hundreds of grannies
ALEXANDRA – Donors lighten Twala's task in caring for grannies this Christmas.
Philanthropist Linda Twala was reduced to sweat in sweltering heat as he maintained order while handing out Christmas hampers to hundreds of grannies.
In his typical accommodative style, which is rare in many, he fed his troops of volunteers in feeding and distributing the hampers to make their 2018 festive season a memorable one. Even the 80-year-olds of Alex, Rabie Ridge and Orange Farm, regained long hidden energy jostling to receive their share while those who failed to get up given from their chairs and the bedridden at their homes.
His assistants from his Phutadichaba Community Centre and God Never Fails Church along Vincent Tshabalala Road should also be commended together with donors, Pick n Pay, Respect and Ubuntu and, Ulusha foundation from Durban and local taxi associations. Prayers and music by local children and members of the Field Vand Foundation and, a brass band also lifted everyone’s spirits.
Emotionally touched, Bella Mbele (64), who is disabled, said her suffering and pain will cease for a moment when she shares the goodies with her children and grandchildren who rely on her meagre grant payout. “I am very thankful for the rare gift.”
White Bhalintolo (80) who is hard of hearing looked glazed but calm when he was assisted to receive his share from Twala in a 20-litre container.
Frail but pensive Ineas Cronje (83) who gave a brief smile was helped to carry her own container out by relatives.
Despite the hitches along the way, all ended well leaving Twala to recover from fatigue, savour the contentment of a mission accomplished and despite age, regain his strength in readiness for next year’s turn of a similar event.
