Principal commends attentiveness for improved results

ALEX - East Bank Secondary School teachers and the Class of 2018 commended for the 15.57 per cent improvement in their matric results.

East Bank Secondary School teachers and the Class of 2018 should be commended for the 15.57 per cent improvement in their matric results.

The school improved from 74.15 per cent the previous year to 89.72 per cent, putting the school in third position after Realogile which notched 91 per cent with perennial leader KwaBhekilanga remaining in pole position with 92.34 per cent.

East Bank principal Isaac Tloloe said schools should be credited more for the quality of passes which would guarantee children access to stable work opportunities in the science and financial sectors. To this end, the school will launch an additional science lab soon.

Of its 107 matric candidates, 37 qualified for bachelor degree studies, 38 for diploma studies and 21 achieved senior certificates.

He attributed the school’s achievement to hard work, teamwork, determination, discipline and attentiveness by the learners.

Deputy principal Hector Ngxanga commended the teachers saying they hardly had a day’s holiday. “They started punctually at 7am after struggling to stop truancy, and barred latecomers from entry early in the year,” he said.

“This improved pupils’ attitude towards education, made them punctual, and gave us ample time to consolidate on streamlined programmes including weekend, night and holiday study programmes.”

Also, he commended parents for attending scheduled meetings to discuss their children’s performances. Tloloe added that the large attendance was mainly by Grade 12 parents who were seemingly concerned as it was their children’s last chance to do well and by those whose children were in Grade 8. “We hope this attitude can spread to other grades as we strive for the ultimate 100 per cent in lower grades to make it easier for them when in Grade 12,” Tloloe said.
