IN PICS: Change is in the air, Alex voters predict

ALEXANDRA – The 2019 election race for power begins.

Representatives of political parties congregated outside polling stations in Alex to woe voters including subliminally through regalia and other artefacts.

The three main protagonists, ANC, DA and EFF are expected to share the spoils at the upcoming 2019 provincial and national elections in May. This amid widespread expectation for a shake-up in political stakes in the aftermath of debilitating corruption scandals. More of the shenanigans are anticipated to tumble out across political party lines when the campaign heats up. This, proving true – though not so well intended, embattled minister of Women’s Affairs in the Presidency, Bathabile Dlamini’s assertion of smaller ‘nyana’ (tiny and denoting widespread nature of corruption) cupboards of corruption by many in leadership positions. Most of the cesspool seems centred on their self-enrichment through unethical tender processes, outright theft and greed.

At the East Bank Clinic station Betane Lulama, Ouma Mokapa and Annah Mangwana of the ANC appeared patient.

Betane said, “We anticipate more turn out. Thirty voters have walked into the station by 11 am. There are no problems and it’s encouraging.”

Wisani Mbavala of the EFF said, “Through the vote, we will take over Gauteng to relieve the majority of residents who are denied safe and reliable water and toilets through broken promises by those currently in power.

“Unlike others, we won’t promise houses but the land which they are entitled to and on which they will build houses of their choice after they will have been provided well-paying and decent jobs.”

Mbavala said their solutions will be planned and implemented properly to avoid the party also making broken promises. “Every cent will also be accounted for.”

Nompendulo Ntuma of the DA said, “With their disappointment, we hope the electorate will vote DA.

“Change is good and is in the horizon nationwide as the public has seen and believes in our delivery record where we govern. This through the delivery of jobs, better lives and end to endemic corruption.”

Ntuma said they will seek unity of government and citizens to fight against all social and economic ills.

Other smaller parties camped at selected stations or appealed to residents’ vote through placards posted in strategic spots.
