Joyride to rape
ALEXANDRA – Bored female joins joyride ending in 'rape'.
An alleged rapist’s case is featuring at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court with the accused pleading that the sex was consensual.
The case was postponed to allow for the defence witnesses to take a stand. The accused also claimed that the victim allegedly approached his family for bribe money in order for her to drop the case.
The victim is said to have joined the accused and his friend on a joyride around Alex at night on 27 December as she was bored. She sat at the back of the vehicle with the accused. At some point, she wanted to use the toilet and the driver stopped next to the accused’s home. The accused accompanied her to the toilet at her request and waited a short distance away.
The victim is said to have undressed without closing the door and in full view of the accused. This seemingly aroused him and he approached her and asked to have sex with her. She allegedly didn’t resist and asked if he had a condom. When he said no, she allegedly consented to the sex in the toilet and they closed the door.
In the process, they heard the accused’s companion walking towards them and they quickly dressed up and got out and met him. The man then went to buy alcohol from a tavern while the two waited for him in the vehicle. He returned and they again drove around the township with the two allegedly fondling and kissing in the back seat. Also, it is alleged that they agreed to put up at the accused’s place.
After a while, she again asked to use a toilet but elsewhere. On her return, she waved down another vehicle which she boarded and drove away in, leaving the accused and his friend bemused.
In a statement, the victim who claimed to have been raped cried in the toilet to attract the accused’s companion to the incident. She claimed to have hugged the friend under the impression that he was gay as she didn’t trust the accused.
Afterwards, she allegedly approached the accused’s family and solicited for the bribe which was seemingly declined. She then reported the incident leading to the accused’s arrest and court appearance.
