Thafeni not scavenging

Accompanying the story was a photograph on the front page taken at the scene of the fire that broke on the morning of 23 August, destroying several shacks.
The lead story described the two men in the photograph as friends who were going through the remains of the shacks scavenging for items to sell to scrap metal dealers.
Attorneys representing one of the men, Addison Andise Thafeni, have since written to Alex News indicating that he did not know the other man, was not his friend, and was not scavenging for items to re-sell.
The attorneys further pointed out that Thafeni was a resident of the affected area.
On the day, he was assisting the victims and emergency services together with other members of the community.
The editor and staff of Alex News regrets this error and unreservedly apologise to Thafeni, his friends and family for the embarrassment and false impression created by the article.
