ALEXANDRA – Strange work suit alerts victim of robbery in his house
A man charged by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court with housebreaking in Alexandra was remanded in custody to 5 May for sentencing.
Tshepho Mokwena (22) who was apprehended by the victim, assisted by neighbours, admitted to the offense which occurred midday on 13 April. The victim secured the home before he left for work at 8 am. When he returned at 12 noon he suspected an intrusion when he saw a strange work suit hanging on the wall.
He checked the rest of the house which appeared normal until he noticed a sliding door which was slightly open. Suddenly, the accused swung a golf bat at him but missed. The two wrestled to the floor and the victim, who overpowered the accused, screamed for assistance from neighbours who assisted to restrain the accused.
Police were called and arrested him after the residents had meted mob justice on him.
