Total of 168 Early Childhood Development teachers successfully complete their six months’ training
MARLBORO – Rotary Foundation said the aim of the training was to empower ECD teachers and practitioners with the skills and knowledge that they need in order to grow the business as they prepare young children for formal schooling.
The Department of Health and Social Development in the City of Johannesburg in partnership with the Rotary Foundation hosted a trail of graduation ceremonies in region E to confer certificates to hundreds of Early Child Development graduates.
A group of 168 Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners from 28 facilities in region E of the City of Johannesburg received their six months’ training certificates during graduation ceremonies that were held in Kew, Marlboro and Far East Bank on 5 August this year.
The training of practitioners by the Rotary Foundation in partnership with the City’s Department of Health and Social Development commenced in February and was completed by the end of July.
According to Annemarie Mostert, the coordinator of the programme from the Rotary Foundation, the aim of the training was to empower ECD teachers and practitioners with the skills and knowledge that they need in order to grow the business as they prepare young children for formal schooling.
“The training included topics such as leadership and communication, financial management and reporting, classroom management, record keeping, governance and occupational health and safety,” Mostert said.
Principal at Thabisong Daycare Centre in Alexandra Ntsoaki Tshoagong said the training programme helped them as practitioners to understand how to run their facilities on a day-to-day basis. “We’ve learned a lot from the training, from communication to financial management.
“The training was exactly what we needed and we go back to our facilities well equipped to deal with the challenges we face every day.”
Speaking to scores of graduates was MMC for the Department of Health and Social Development Dr Mpho Phalatse at the event held in Marlboro Community Hall. She congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to use the knowledge they received from the training to improve their facilities.
