Cards game gets one behind bars
ALEXANDRA – Man drenched in beer, stitched for demanding cards
A man sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to three months’ imprisonment for assault opted to pay a R1 000 fine.
Despite a plea of ‘not guilty’, the court found Marcus Ramogale guilty of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm on a victim early evening on 12 September. He found the victim and some friends playing a game of cards and he and others joined in.
When they lost, he took half of the cards. When the victim asked him to hand them back, the accused seemingly swore and accused the victim of disrespecting him. This escalated into a tense exchange of words and the accused poured beer on the victim before hitting him several times on the forehead with the beer bottle. The others separated the two and the victim with a swollen forehead was taken to a clinic where he was stitched up.
