Namesake robbers get 3-year sentences
ALEXANDRA – Sizwes blemish their name through robbery.
Motorists who hooted at the sight of a robbery attracted the attention of patrolling security guards leading to the arrest and ultimate sentencing of two men.
The perpetrators, Sizwe Mabaso (28) and Sizwe Ndlovu (27) were each sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to three years for the crime which occurred about 8.30pm on 29 October last year under the Gautrain bridge in Ext 7. They accosted the victim who was walking along the road at gunpoint and took his cell phone and R190 in cash from his pocket. As they dragged him into a bush, presumably to do a thorough search on him, motorists who witnessed the scene hooted incessantly causing the robbers to flee and attracted the attention of guards in a passing patrolling vehicle.
The guards, along with the victim, pursued and apprehended the accused. They recovered the victim’s phone, money and two firearms which were found to be toy guns. The two admitted to the offence and will serve two more years, as they have already been incarcerated for one year while awaiting trial.
