Mystery death of child taken ill at crèche

ALEXANDRA - Owner of a crèche did not want to talk about the two children who fell ill in her care, only to die later in hospital.

Founder and principal of Banakekeleni orphanage, Rose Martins did not want to talk to Alex News about the child that fell ill at her crèche only to die later in hospital.

Martins said the incident brought back bad memories and she “did not want to get into it”. She added, “It was a very traumatic thing that happened and I don’t want to go back there.”

The tragedy occurred after Khomisani Conny Machabela dropped off her two-year-old daughter Phamela Mercy Machabela at the crèche, allegedly in good health, but later that day her daughter died.

Machabela said she was still waiting for the postmortem results so she could find out the truth about her beloved daughter’s death.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said a case had been opened at Bramley police station.
