ALEXANDRA – A couple is wanted for hijacking, robbing an e-hailing taxi driver.

An e-hailing taxi driver was allegedly robbed of his vehicle in Alexandra by a couple who called for transport to take them to Savoy.

Alex Police Station spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji said the incident occurred at midday on 28 January. The vehicle, a Nissan Almera which had a tracker system, had not been found at the time of reporting.

“The victim was called to the intersection of 12th and Rooth avenues where the two boarded the taxi. When he got to 10th Avenue, the female passenger said she had forgotten something at home.

“At that moment, the male companion pulled up the vehicle’s handbrake and pointed a gun at the victim,” Malatji said adding that in the process, another man also got into the taxi and they drove away with the victim.

They dropped him in Phase 1 after also robbing him of R300 in cash, cell phone and wallets with cards all valued at R2 300.
