Ward 105 councillor welcomes the demolishing of illegal structures in his ward

TSUTSUMANI – The Johannesburg Metro Police Department ordered to demolish all illegally erected structures in Alexandra.

The councillor for Ward 105, Tefo Raphadu, has welcomed the City’s decision to demolish all illegal structures in Alexandra.

This was after the JMPD in Region E, demolished dozens of illegally built structures in Tsutsumani Ext 9 along London Road on 3 February. The houses were recently built by some community members who were renting them out. A number of occupants of the houses were left homeless and some lost their valuables during the demolishing.

“We welcome the decision by the law enforcement agencies, JMPD and SAPS to demolish illegal structures in the area. We have warned residents not to build structures on the piece of land that was earmarked to build a fire station that will service Alex community. The demolishing was a result of numerous complaints by community members about the mushrooming of these illegal structures,” Raphadu said.

JMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the City obtained a court order on 21 January to demolish all illegal structures including the area next to Marlboro Gautrain Station and on the banks of the Jukskei River.
