Woman’s loan attempt backfires

ALEXANDRA – Fake documents nail woman for fraud.

A 27-year-old woman had a lucky escape when she was sentenced to a five-year jail term wholly suspended for five years for attempted fraud.

Glenda Ramogofu of Diesploot who was out on bail granted at her first hearing by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in August last year was sentenced on 28 January. This after she admitted to the offence committed at Capitec Bank in Blue Hills, Midrand on 21 August.

She was caught out at the assessment stage of her application for a loan. She submitted with the application copies of her identity document, fake salary advice slip from a prominent hotel and fraudulent bank statements.

The bank picked up the discrepancy when it assessed her affordability status and after the purported employer declined knowledge of her employment. This lead to her arrest and subsequent sentencing.
