Mkhonto remains in blue
ALEXANDRA – He again urged his party to strengthen its election machinery in readiness for the polls.
Proportional representative councillor for Alex Shadrack Mkhonto’s political home remains the DA ahead of the 2021 local and provincial polls.
When he spoke to Alex News in the aftermath of the resignation of DA leader Mmusi Maimane and Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, Mkhonto had said the party was heading to a crossroad and the outcome of the vote to elect a new party leader would determine which route to take.
Mkhonto’s continued membership was premised on the service delivery record of his party in the city under Mashaba. “It speaks for itself, was known by the residents and will be hard to beat.”

He avoided delving into Mashaba’s announcement of a new political home in the making and Maimane leading a drive for a social movement and only said, “The developments are legitimate social and political intentions which they will clarify and sell to the public at a convenient time to them.”
He again urged his party to strengthen its election machinery in readiness for the polls by drawing in tried and tested activists into its leadership. “They [activists] weathered the storm in good and bad times, have the experience, tenacity and endearment to the residents to help the party succeed and ensure service delivery.’
