Local non-profit organisation partners with Food for Life, Wahl Clippers and Dare to Love to fight hunger

ALEXANDRA – Through these gardens, we want to help communities in different countries in Africa eradicate hunger.

In their efforts to eradicate hunger in Alexandra, a non-profit organisation, Blessed Is The Hand That Giveth in partnership with Garden for Life, Wahl Clippers and Dare to Love embarked on an initiative to teach local youngsters how to grow subsistence vegetables.

Philemon Matume of Blessed Is The Hand That Giveth said his organisation depended on donations to buy food for the children housed by the organisation and the initiative was prompted by the need to feed these children.

“Our facility takes care of dozens of children from poor families, helping them with things like homework, youth activities and events to support and uplift others spiritually,” he said. “We partnered with Garden for Life and Dare to Love through Wahl Clippers who are one of our sponsors to start a vegetable garden that will help us grow food for children and stop depending on donations to have enough food.”

Steven Barnard, the executive director at the Institute for Rural and Community organisation that initiated Garden for Life and Farmer Kids Project, said more than eight million people in South Africa went to bed with empty stomachs every day and their projects were aimed at eradicating hunger in all communities across South Africa.

“We’ve partnered with Dare to Love, Wahl Clippers and Blessed is The Hand that Giveth to start a garden that will produce food for the Alex community and teach people about ways of eradicating hunger. These children will be responsible for growing their own food. Through these gardens, we want to help communities in different countries in Africa eradicate hunger,” Barnard said.
