Irked man stabs woman after rejection

ALEXANDRA – A rejection ends in a married man stabbing woman in her shack

A married man who threatened to burn a victim in her shack and later stabbed her was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment or a R3 000 fine.

Lonwabo Mdetshi (27) of 2nd Avenue, Alex, who pleaded guilty was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm. An additional sentence of 36 months was added but wholly suspended for five years for the incident which occurred in September last year.

He went to the victim’s place at midnight and knocked at the door while she and a friend were asleep. The friends alerted the victim to the loud knock. When she asked who it was, the accused called himself Ayanda. She refused to open for him and the accused threatened to burn down the shack. Scared, she unlocked the door and the man forced his way inside at knifepoint and attacked the victim.

She defended herself with a pillow after he had stabbed her in the chest. She also sustained stab wounds on her hands as he tried to stab her in the face. The accused stopped the attack when he received a call.

Afterwards, when she was bleeding and at her request, he and the friend took her to a clinic while he still held the knife and was threatening them. He returned with them after the treatment still threatening them.

On arrival, he apologised and begged the victim not to report to the police as he has children who could starve if he was arrested. When asked why he stabbed her, the accused said it was because she refused to be his lover. His apology then turned to threats that she shouldn’t report him. He left the place before dawn and they went to report the incident resulting in his arrest.
