Corona spares no political affiliation

ALEXANDRA – EFF councillor details the many cons of Coronavirus.

The Economic Freedom Front in Alex is concerned about tenants of rented rooms and those with home loans.

“Their [tenants] rights to shelter is at risk as they will lose jobs and fail to pay their instalments when companies close down temporarily and some permanently due to the coronavirus,” the party’s proportional representative councillor Moshe Mphahlele said.

The virus, he added, spared no one. “Even those with strong immunity from their African rural background and organic vegetable and protein-based meals,” he claimed.

He said without a known cure, prevention against the virus was only guaranteed by adhering to improved health and hygiene particularly handwashing with soap and sanitising one’s immediate surroundings. “Seek immediate testing when you experience signs of the virus-like dry cough, fever and shortage of breath.”

Mphahlele added that the dire social conditions in Alex were conducive to the virus and would particularly affect children severely. “They will lag behind in their education after schools were closed prematurely. Many of them will lose their support systems and parents if they are not sufficiently protected through a steady supply of supplies of essential items like sanitiser sprays and afford the cost of treatment.”

He repeated calls by other leaders for the unity of purpose, locally and nationally, as fear and concern grips everyone about the impending consequences of the scourge. “Meanwhile, don’t touch your nose, mouth and eyes, avoid sick coughing, sneezing people and use alcohol-based hand rub.”
