Councillor bearer of good news to the poor from a donor

ALEXANDRA - Donor eases desperation of poor Alex families through food parcels

A good samaritan supported some of the poor residents of Alex at a time when the national lockdown confines everyone indoors including those without basic necessities.

Carl Lee of Houghton provided the needy with food parcels to help them cope with the restrictive lockdown measures. The measures were enforced to mitigate against the spread of the coronavirus which has reportedly infected close to 2 000 people with 19 deaths being recorded in the country.

Lee’s emissary, proportional representative councillor Shadrack Mkhonto distributed the parcels to several families identified as most in need. “They were distributed to them at a very difficult time and when they don’t have anything to sustain themselves,” Mkhonto said about the parcels which he collected from the donor’s home and distributed to the beneficiaries who he said were thankful for the gesture.

Mkhonto added that the relief was also timely as people tended to eat more regularly when they were sedentary and not working.

He appealed for more donations from others saying there were many needy families in the township.
