Fewer potential victims on the streets due to lockdown, criminals target homes – police

ALEX – An Alex couple was robbed in the middle of the night.

An Alexandra couple was allegedly robbed of money, cell phones and a laptop at gun point at their home early morning on 5 May.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said the victims were woken by a suspect who is at large.

“After ordering them to remain in bed, the suspect tied the male victim’s legs with shoe laces, searched the room and left with R500 in cash, two cells phones and the laptop,” Mbatha said.

He urged the residents to be extra vigilant when at home to prevent increasing house robberies, which he attributed to criminals turning to the homes due to fewer potential victims on the streets caused by the lockdown.
