ALEXANDRA - A man has been arrested by Alex police after he allegedly beat up his pregnant girlfriend with a mop stick.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the man, who lives with the victim in Far Eastbank, was arrested for common assault. He will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
The victim said she was in the house when her boyfriend accused her of making calls to her girlfriend. The victim denied ever making any phone calls. The boyfriend is said to have been infuriated by the denial and took a mop stick and beat her up.
The victim ran out of the house and reported the assault to the police who came and arrested the man.
