Coaching clinics for the underprivileged schools
JOBURG - United Kingdom's Sunderland football club held soccer coaching clinics in Johannesburg for underprivileged schools.
The Auditing firm KPMG Foundation in collaboration with the Youth Managers Foundation organised a soccer coaching clinic for the children from underprivileged schools in Alexandra, Eldorado Park and Soweto.
The Sunderland Coaching Clinics were held at Parktown Boys High School over the Human Rights Day weekend as part of Sunderland AFC’s football delivery for Africa. Head of Sunderland’s International Football Development Graham Robinson and head of Football Delivery Michael Havelock from the United Kingdom conducted the clinics.
“Everybody starts somewhere and community football is the starting point for every player. We are glad to be part of the young footballers’ development,” said Havelock after the coaching sessions.
“It is crucial that schools such as Parktown Boys’ with facilities like ours give opportunities to underprivileged schools so they are exposed to the kind of soccer of international standards. It is part of our philosophy to contribute meaningfully to our communities,” remarked Diego Mercier, master in charge of football at the school.
