Mountain to climb for Chiefs and United in Africa games

JOBURG - SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs have a mountain to climb in their Confederation of African Football games this weekend.

SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs have a mountain to climb in their 2nd leg Confederation of African Football games this weekend.

This follows their away losses with United beaten 1-0 by Tunisian outfit Etoile Sportive du Sahel, while Chiefs were beaten 3-0 by the Democratic Republic of Congo’s, AS Vita Club. Both games were played last weekend.

Chief’s are at the FNB Stadium and United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Kick-off in Pretoria is set for 8.15pm and 7pm at FNB. Matsatsantsa, as United is known to its followers expects nothing but a win and coach Cavin Johnson said it was not mission impossible.

United will be boosted by the return of striker, Bradley Grobler from injury who is set to make his first start in this competition. “We now have a great opportunity to settle the score and accomplish something that most teams in Southern Africa have failed to do and that is to overcome a team from North Africa, and progress to the group stages of the competition,” said Johnson.

“Sahel is a formidable side and football lovers will get to see that on Saturday. We have to be on our best on the night if we harbour any ambition of progressing to the next stage. They are well aware of what we can do and we have to ensure that we repeat the performance of the first leg where we dominated.”

Although Chief’s have a tougher mountain to climb, coach Stuart Baxter expects to overcome the Congolese side. “If they could score the three goals to no reply from us, what stops us from scoring even more goals than them to no reply,” he said.

“What they did on their home ground, we are equally capable of doing in our own backyard,” said a confident Baxter with his team on a roll in the Premier Soccer League, conquering everything before them.
