A 30-year-old woman was dragged out of a taxi and beaten by a gang of seven women.
The victim’s niece alleged that she was on her way to a Shisanyama tavern in Tsutsumani when she saw her aunt quarreling with another woman. She went to inquire about the argument but then decided to ask her aunt to leave the other woman so they could go home.
They boarded a taxi which was going towards the KwaBhekilanga High School direction, but the taxi driver went in a different direction. When they asked where the taxi was going to, the driver said he had other passengers to pick up and would drop them once those passengers had boarded.
In a short distance, the taxi stopped and the same woman that had altercation with her aunt, opened the door of the taxi, grabbed and dragged her aunt out of the taxi and started beating her.
She was joined by six other women. In the process, they then stole her cellphone and R70 in cash. The victim ran away and tried to board another taxi but they followed her and dragged her out once again and showered her with more beatings. An unknown man arrived in the scene and tried to talk some sense to the women and while the man talked to the seven suspects, her aunt managed to escape.
The aunt opened a common assault case at the Alexandra Police Station. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said no motive for the assault has been advanced but all the seven suspects have been arrested and would appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court soon.
