Police in Alexandra have appealed to residents of Ext 9 to help them track down two suspects in connection with a shooting incident in the area.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said anyone with information regarding a shooting incident on 2 April at about 6am in which a woman was shot in the legs during an armed robbery in the street, should report it to the police.

“Incidents of street robberies, armed or not, have increased and become a worrying factor to police,” he said. “We appeal to the community to work hand-in-hand with the police to reclaim their streets and ensure these criminals and thugs are eliminated from our streets. Eradicating crime is not the sole responsibility of the police, but a collective effort with the community as well,” Maphakela said.

He said the victims, two sisters from Ext 9 were walking to work when they were confronted by two armed men. The sisters ran in different directions and one of them was shot in the legs. The police arrived at the scene after hearing gun shots as they were patrolling.

The suspects made off with the victim’s cellphone worth R1 000 and R250 in cash, including bank and clothing account cards. The victim was rushed to Edenvale General Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
