Shumba Stars Band hopes to roar

ALEZANDRA - Shumba Stars Band, a new entrant to the local music scene, is looking to make waves in Alexandra.

Shumba Stars Band, a new entrant on the local music scene, is looking to make waves in Alexandra.

Shumba means lion in Zimbabwe’s Shona language where the band started in 1995.

The five-man group is led by Givemore Pairamanzi, the only surviving founder member. The other members are Norman Chirigo, Rodwell Chirigo, Kundai Chikwere and Hinyas Mahinya.

The group’s genre is rumba interspersed with drama. They prefer performing live shows which they did to an appreciative crowd when releasing their new CD called Luthando Vol 2 at Kokwani’s Place recently.

“We look forward to soaring sales from our new release and want to collaborate with more local groups,” Pairamanzi said.

“Currently we work with Foreverbusy, an Alex reggae outfit; and will be auditioning at Razz Matazz with the hope of sharing the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi soon.”

The group is working on another CD to be released in December.

Besides music, Pairamanzi is also an electrical appliance repair technician who fixes fridges, stoves, TVs, radios and irons to supplement his income – while anticipating soaring sales from the group’s CDs.
