Spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said a man was shot in Tsutsumani at about 3.30am.
The complainant said she was asleep in her house in Thoko Mngoma Street when she heard three gunshots.
Moments later, a woman came screaming to her door and banged on her window, shouting “Mkhize has been shot”.
The complainant then opened the door and accompanied the woman, described as Mkhize’s girlfriend, to the crime scene. They then took Mkhize to hospital.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said police have launched a massive manhunt for the suspect, whom he said was well known to the victim. No motive for the shooting has been advanced.
