Rembrandt Park couple hijacked on Vincent Tshabalala Road
ALEXANDRA - A Rembrandt Park couple was hijacked of their Hyundai vehicle while waiting for traffic lights at the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 8th Avenue.
A Rembrandt Park couple’s vehicle was hijacked while they were stopped at traffic lights on the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 8th Avenue.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the couple was approached from the front by an armed man at about 8am. He tapped on their windscreen and instructed them to get out of the car.
As the couple hesitated to get out of the car, the suspect cocked the gun. The woman, who was the driver of the car, then ordered her husband to jump out while she tried to pick up her cellphone and get their baby who was on the back seat.
As she attempted to grab the cellphone before the baby, the armed suspect pulled her out of the car. The bold woman grabbed her daughter from the back seat and opened the boot of the car to grab her handbag as well.
While all this was happening, another man emerged and searched her husband. He only managed to take a cellphone, while the armed suspect grabbed the woman’s cellphone in the car.
The suspects then sped off in the Hyundai with the registration number CV 20 KC GP. Police said no shots were fired, and the value of the hijacked car was estimated at R120 000.
Maphakela said a case of car hijacking was being investigated by the police.
