ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have arrested an irate boyfriend who allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend's child because the woman was taking him for a fool.
Police in Alexandra have arrested an irate boyfriend who allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend’s child because the woman was taking him for a fool.
The 28-year-old victim said she was in her house with her children aged seven and a one when her boyfriend walked past from a nearby tavern and conveyed his greetings to her.
When the woman replied, the man then changed his statement and wanted to know why the woman was taking him for a fool.
Before she could answer, he picked up a cane and is said to have beaten up the woman and chased her away. He then allegedly grabbed the woman’s child and declared he was going to kill the little one. It is alleged that a neighbour managed to dissuade him. Police are said to have arrived on the scene at that juncture and arrested the suspect.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the woman was treated at the Alex Clinic and discharged. The suspect has meanwhile appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
