The youth of Alexandra will be among their counterparts from Diepsloot and Orange Farm who will be trained in various skills.
Experian SA brought hope to Rivers Foundation by injecting more than R500 000 to help the organisation set up Project Hope, an initiative designed to equip previously disadvantaged and unemployed youth with the necessary skills to participate in the economy.
Project Hope will provide IT hardware, fashion design and early childhood development (ECD) training to youth aged between 18 and 35 in Alexandra, Diepsloot, Orange Farm and from early next year, Braamfontein.
The training will run for a period of 12 months starting from 18 June, after which new participants will be recruited.
The training will be divided into four parts – career readiness, beginner, intermediary and advanced training. Each part will be three months long and 40 participants will be trained per trimester. In order to ensure that participants commit to the training, each participant will pay a registration fee of R50.
“If it wasn’t for Experian SA’s financial contribution, it would have taken us a lot longer to introduce the project and be in a position to complete building the structure and security gates, buy training equipment, and put together training manuals. We are grateful for their generous contribution,” said Nuska Zwane, the head of Rivers Foundation.
The company’s employees will, in addition, provide participants with career counselling, and basic credit and financial education. This will equip them with the necessary knowledge to make them credit- and financially-savvy and help them manage their finances responsibly when they complete the training.
“Skills development is very close to our hearts, and we pride ourselves in supporting such initiatives,” said Michelle Beetar, managing director at Experian SA.
“After the training, participants will reap – among other things – the benefits of understanding a credit report, responsible credit and the importance of building a good credit history that they will need in the future.”
