Zuma put up for sale online

President Jacob Zuma was put up for sale in a tongue-in-cheek advert on the classifieds website Gumtree.

The advert, titled President for Sale was posted on Gumtree on 19 June by Average Joe, but was later removed according to the Star.

However, it had since been doing the rounds on social media.

The advert featured a picture of Zuma with an accompanying message that read, “Desperately in need of a functioning president. This one costs too much to maintain, will take what we can get at the moment, just make an offer.”

The selling price was set as ‘negotiable’ but it further stated that the seller was willing to ‘swap for smarter/cheaper model’.

However, the seller indicated that offers from ‘chancers’ would not be entertained, asking for ‘only barcode ID holders or TAX payers please’.

Gumtree is a classified website where buyers and sellers can post free adverts.

According to www.mybroadbad.co.za, Gumtree spokesperson Estelle Nagel explained that almost anything could be bought or sold on the website with the exception of people – “even if they are in the public domain”.

“We encourage users to only upload advertisements that offer legitimate goods and services,” she said.
