Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the hijacking of a truck carrying furniture destined for Mbombela in Mpumalanga.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said a Bakos Brothers truck laden with R300 000 worth of furniture was hijacked on the corner of 1st Avenue and Vincent Tshabalala Road at about 5.30am on 23 July.
The driver of the Wynberg branch of the company said he and a colleague were picking up another colleague. As the colleague jumped into the truck, they were approached by three men, two of them armed with guns.
All three men got into the truck, one of them drove and the other two sat aside the three Bakos employees. They travelled along Vincent Tshabalala Road in River Park and eventually dropped off the employees.
Police did not want to disclose how and where the truck was found when they arrested four suspects and recovered all the goods it was carrying. The four suspects have since appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on charges of truck hijacking.
