ALEXANDRA - A suspected door frame thief has been arrested by Alexandra police.
A suspected doorframe thief has been arrested by Alexandra police.
The suspect was handed in to the Alex police by Metro police officer, Rasanavho Lazurus Mudzunga, after allegedly being caught red-handed by the victim. According to Mudzunga he was patrolling in Alexandra when saw an old man holding another man by the belt of his trousers.
The old man is said to have approached Mudzunga and told him that he had caught the suspect while he was trying to steal from him. This was allegedly the second time. The suspect was accused of already having stolen a doorframe to the tune of R500. But when he returned for another alleged act of theft, he was surprised by the complainant who effected a citizen’s arrest.
Mudzunga took both men from Vukani informal settlement in 4th Avenue, to the Alex police who then detained the suspect.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the suspect is due to appear soon in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on a charge of theft.
