Suspect bites cop’s hand

ALEXANDRA - A suspect allegedly bit the hand of a cop from Alexandra Police Station in an attempt to fend-off his arrest.

A suspect allegedly bit the hand of an officer of Alexandra Police Station in an attempt to resist arrest.

According to Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, three police officers had gone to a house in Soccer Street Ext 7 to arrest a suspect. The suspect locked himself inside the house.

The three officers then called for back-up and a fourth officer arrived on the scene and asked the suspect to come out of the house. After the suspect refused, the officers then resorted to force and as they tried to handcuff him, the suspect is said to have bitten one of the officers’ hand. He was eventually overpowered by the four officers and arrested.

Maphakela said the suspect would appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on charges of common assault and resisting arrest.
