Realogile mourns three deaths in one month

ALEXANDRA - Realogile Secondary School is mourning three deaths within a month including that of the school principal.

Realogile Secondary School is mourning three deaths which occurred within one month.

Two weeks ago Alex News reported the death of science teacher Joseph Makunye. On 27 September, the school buried the school principal Dumisani Mbatha who died on 20 September after a long illness. The same night Mbatha was buried, a school boy Moses Sinyolo was stabbed to death by boys at a party in the Vaal. Two boys have been detained in connection with the murder.

Alex born Mbatha was principal from 2010 until his death. The deputy principal Dingaan Kubheka said, “The school was in mourning and traumatised by the deaths but will try to stabilise the situation in the interest of the children as they head towards final year examinations.”

He said Mbatha who trained at the Soweto Teachers College arrived at the school after stints at Minerva and Eastbank High schools. His four years at the school was interrupted by bouts of illness which worsened earlier this year forcing him to go off sick until his death. He said the deceased was a disciplinarian who created and achieved a vision for the school from his first year. “He set a benchmark of 60 percent pass rate which the school surpassed to 68 percent at the end of the year. His firmness motivated teachers to be punctual and commit to their teaching responsibilities and he also improved punctuality of the students.” Kubheka said the school achieved 70 percent pass mark in matric last year which Mbatha had committed to improve on this year.

Kubheka stated that the school boy [Sinyolo] died while being taken to hospital. The details of how and why he was killed are uncertain and the parents are too distraught to comment. He said, “Sinyolo was a disciplined and outstanding athlete who the school and students will miss. He will be buried this weekend.”
