Library computers stolen
ALEXANDRA - The Riverpark Library has suffered the theft of four computers in the last three months.
Four computers at the Riverpark Library have been stolen in the past three months.
The latest theft happened on 4 November and was reported to the police for investigation.
The computers were part of twelve computers, donated to the computer school for the community, housed at the library.
Herb Scheiber, school co-ordinator said in all instances the thief or thieves removed the hard drives from the casings leaving the crime scene appearing undisturbed. Also, there was no sign of forced entry, the alarm system and metal detector didn’t activate and security personnel at the door didn’t detect anything.
Scheiber added that the incidents were a blow to the school and the community, especially children who need computer skills to keep abreast with peers in a technologically-driven world. He pleaded for the perpetrators to be apprehended so that the incidents don’t discourage generous people from making further donations to the school.
“Those interested in uplifting the community of Alexandra, please donate used and working computers to help the school meet the growing demand for computer skills.” He said he was hopeful security measures at the library will be tightened.
